5. Age Limit (As on 11-06-2023):
5.1 The crucial date for age reckoning is fixed as 11-06-2023. Age limit for the posts is 18-40 years.
4.2 Permissible relaxation in upper age limit for different categories as per extant Rules/ guidelines of Government of India.
6. Essential Educational Qualifications :
(1) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:
(a) Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard having passed in Mathematics and English (having been studied as compulsory or elective subjects) conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories in India shall be a mandatory educational qualification for all approved categories of GDS. b) The applicant should have studied the local language i.e. (Name of Local language) at least up to Secondary standard [as compulsory or elective subjects].
(2). OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:-
(i) Knowledge of computer
(ii) Knowledge of cycling
(iii) Adequate means of livelihood
7. How to apply:
7.1. Applications are to be submitted online only at https://indiapostgdsonline.gov.in Applications received from any other mode shall not be entertained. Brief instructions for registration, payment of fee, documents to be uploaded with application, selection of posts etc. are given in Annexure-V.
8. SELECTION CRITERIA:
(i) The applicants will be shortlisted for engagement on the basis of a system generated merit list.
(ii) The Merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained/ conversion of Grades/Points to marks in Secondary School Examination (10th).
BRIEF JOB PROFILE AND RESIDENCE/ACCOMMODATION:
1. BRANCH POSTMASTER (BPM):
The job profile of a Branch Postmaster (BPM) includes:
a) Managing day-to-day postal operations of the Branch Post Office (B.O) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) as per the Department’s guidelines.
b) Promoting and marketing the products and services offered by the Department and operating various services in the Customer Services’ Centres (CSC).
c) In single-handed BOs, BPMs are responsible for the smooth functioning of the office, including mail conveyance and delivery.
d) In BOs with assistance, BPMs may be supported by ABPM(s). However, BPMs may have to perform combined duties of ABPM(s) when required or in the absence of ABPM(s). They may also be assigned other tasks by superiors such as Mail Overseer (M.O), Inspector Post (IPO), Assistant Superintendent of Post (ASPO), Superintendent of Post Offices (SPOs), Senior Superintendent of Post Office (SSPOs), etc.
e) Residence/Accommodation: The selected applicant for GDS BPM must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office before engagement. A declaration with details of the accommodation should be submitted. The selected applicant is required to reside in the post village where the BO is located. The accommodation must meet the prescribed standards as per the Directorate’s letter No. 17-02/2018-GDS dated 08.03.2019, as amended.
2. ASSISTANT BRANCH POSTMASTER (ABPM):
The job profile of an Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) includes:
a) Selling stamps and stationery, delivering mail at doorsteps, exchanging mail with the account office, etc.
b) Assisting BPM in postal operations as per the Department’s guidelines.
c) Promoting and marketing the products and services offered by the Department and operating various services in the Customer Services’ Centres (CSC).
d) ABPM may also have to perform combined duties of BPM when required in the absence of BPM, in addition to regular duties.
e) ABPMs may be assigned other tasks by superiors such as IPO, ASPO, SPOs, SSPOs, etc.
f) Residence: ABPMs are required to reside within the delivery jurisdictions of the respective Post Office (HO/SO/BO).
